Our current and main initiative is to financially, prayerfully and spiritually support 10 indigenous missionaries.
WHAT IS AN INDIGENOUS MISSIONARY?
An indigenous missionary is simply the same ethnicity and culture of the people of which she/he is a minister of the gospel.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF SUPPORTING INDIGENOUS MISIONARIES?
IT IS VERY WISE USE OF RESOURCES
The average costs to support an indigenous missionary financially is around $6000/Year.
THEY KNOW THIER OWN CULTURE AND LANGUAGE
Many missionaries serving on a foreign mission field are just as they are described "foreign." They are not familiar with the culture or the language, and therefore have to undergo extensive language learning and training just to get to a basic level of understanding of the culture and cross cultural barriers. An indigenous missionary knows its own culture inside and out and speaks the heart language of their people. Discipleship is able to happen on a deeper level and the indigenous missionary is keen to the nuances that may have been lost in translation otherwise.
LESS PAPERWORK AND ABLE TO EASILY LIVE IN COUNTRY
For any one who has traveled, especially in this new pandemic climate, you know that one of the hardest things can be getting the proper paperwork, visas, and permits to actually stay in country. This can also be quite expensive too, yet working with local indigenous missionaries there is no need for these things because they are citizens who already have the proper paperwork needed simply because they were born there and are indigenous to the area.
HOW DOES HOTSM HELP INDIGENOUS MISSIONARIES SHARE THE GOSPEL IN THEIR COMMUNITES?
Church planting is and will always be one of the most effective methodologies to sharing the Gospel, and for the deepening of the one's faith in Christ.
Outreach through education is one way of strengthening the community in the short-term, and prepares the next generation of leaders.
Making disciples goes hand in hand with Church planting, and education. In order to fullfill the great commission a healthy community will be teaching the commands of Jesus to others. We do on the the ground discipleship training and also overseas training through video conference calls.
HEART OF THE SEA MINISTRIES SUPPORTS 3 MAIN PROJECTS.
In the Kenya project we want to EMPOWER individuals to pioneer the local work God has called them to in their communities. Many Kenyans have been reached with the Gospel, but as we all do, they need more spiritual depth through solid Biblical teaching.
The USA project seeks to get communities to ENGAGE. The United States is one of the most churched, affluent countries on the planet, yet it is one of the loneliest and most disengaged people groups living independently from their neighbour only steps away.
While many Asian countries lead the charge in carrying the Gospel to others, the Asia project seeks to EDUCATE, because so many Asian communities have never heard the name of Jesus, and have been educated growing up to believe that there is no God.
